Russians slaughter cows to stop foot and mouth

RUSSIA - Russian farmers will slaughter dozens of cows infected with foot-and-mouth disease in a village near the Chinese border to stop the disease from spreading, media reported on Thursday.

But the Emergencies Ministry in Moscow, in a note on its Web site, said no culling measures were planned for Khabarovsk region where the disease has been found in two settlements.
