Ministry warns violators; Poultry firms agree on 600 fils/kg price

KUWAIT - Major poultry companies in Kuwait including the United Poultry Company, Nayef and Al-Asreyah Poultry Company have committed to supply poultry to retailers at less than 600 fils per kilogram, say reliable sources.

In a meeting with Assistant Undersecretary for the Commercial Supervision Affairs in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry these companies agreed to fix 600 fils as the price for one kilo of poultry.

This is the price payable by consumers which means the companies will - as per terms of the agreement - be required to supply poultry shops at a price lower than 600 fils, they explain.

Pointing out the poultry companies were very "cooperative" with the ministry's demand with regards fixing the prices of poultry, sources said, "The companies' senior officials assured their commitment to ensure the fixed price is applied in the sale of their product, especially during the holy month of Ramadan."

Meanwhile, the ministry has warned these companies of a strict penalty if they violate the fixed prices, say sources. They point out ministry inspectors will be spread in markets in huge numbers during the month of Ramadan to inspect the prices of poultry.

All the companies attending the meeting promised to supply the market with adequate quantities of poultry during Ramadan, conclude the sources.
