Poultry Companies Offer Money To Save Illinois River

OKLAHOMA - An offer from poultry companies of $1.1 million to the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission also includes $500,000 for an organization in Arkansas for watershed management.

The Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission is expected to vote today at a special meeting to decide if they will accept their part of the donation.

However, the $500,000 on the table for Arkansas has no home yet, according to a letter from Janet Wilkerson, a spokeswoman for the poultry companies.

"The (poultry) companies have not determined what entity should administer these funds in Arkansas, but they will ensure that the recipient of the funds is experienced and capable of fulfilling its role in keeping with the (Oklahoma commission's) objective," Wilkerson said in her letter to commission officials.
