Foreign Market for Brazilian Chicken Grows 40%

BRAZIL - The Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef) estimates that chicken exports up to the end of 2004 may generate revenues of approximately US$ 2.5 billion, a growth of 40% when compared to last year.

With regard to the volume shipped, it may reach 2.4 million tons, a 25% increase in comparison to 2003. If these figures are confirmed, it will be a new historical record for the sector.

From January to October, exports totalled US$ 2.1 billion, or 47% more than in the same period last year. In terms of volumes shipped, the total was 2 million tons, 26% growth when compared to the first 10 months in 2003.

In the month of October, exports were equivalent to US$ 217.8 million, a growth of 44% in comparison to the same month in 2003. In terms of quantities shipped, the total was 219,300 tons, an increase of 39.4%.
