Thai processed chicken exports on the rise - THAILAND - Thai processed chicken exports have been steadily rising and have not been affected by the impact of bird flu so far, Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association (TBPEA) said.

TBPEA said Thai cooked chicken exports rose by 40 percent from January to September 2005, compared with the same period last year.

From January to October, Thai processed chicken exports totalled 189,444 tonnes worth THB21.8 billion (about US$545 million), up 47.5 percent and 41.2 percent respectively compared with the same period in 2004.

The association added that exports of Thai processed chicken rose as a result of Brazil's raw chicken meat, which was more expensive.

Meanwhile, Thai processed chicken exports for 2005 were expected to total 280,000 tonnes worth THB32.2 billion (about US$805 million), up 44.5 percent and 38.5 percent respectively from 2004.
