Welsh poultry sale ban dismay

WALES - A barren winter lies ahead for poultry breeders and dealers following the announcement of a ban on markets and shows.

Sales of table poultry have already been affected by shoppers mistakenly believing that eating chicken could give them flu and there are fears that the Christmas market could by hit.

The Welsh Assembly Government introduced emergency legislation on Friday to ban bird markets, shows and similar gatherings in Wales.

News of the ban reached the organisers of Saturday's live poultry market at Ffairfach, Llandeilo, at 4.15pm on Friday and they spent a frantic evening trying to contact all their regular dealers.
