Clean poultry to appear on central Binh Dinh market

VIETNAM - Clean poultry and eggs will be on sale in central Binh Dinh province’s capital city as of Tuesday, said a top provincial official.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Thien said so at a chicken party held at Thanh Binh hotel in Quy Nhon city on Tuesday to raise awareness for the sale and consumption of well-inspected chicken.

The sale and consumption of checked poultry on the month-long frozen market in Quy Nhon city will help the region to reduce farmer losses by jumpstarting the ailing poultry industry.

According to Thien, the committee will also assist Lam Son Food Export and Import Company in buying cheap live fowl for processing.

Currently, there are more than three million vaccinated fowl in the province.

Raising and trading poultry was banned nationwide last month amidst fear of a bird flu epidemic. The H5N1 bird flu virus has spread in poultry in parts of Asia where it has killed almost 70 people in five countries, including 42 in Vietnam since 2003.
