Price summary

Prices of fast growth (49 days) broiler registered the sharpest rise while those of medium (70 days) and slow growth (110 days) broilers also recorded modest gains.

Market analysis

AA broiler prices were up in Shandong province on greater buying interest and tight market supplies. In contrast, broiler consumption in Liaoning province was slow to pick up, especially in the earlier bird-flu affected areas.

In Jiangsu province, prices of white feather and yellow feather broilers were higher on strong pre-festive demand. In Henan province, higher demand over supply had driven up prices. With no deals concluded due to supply shortage, market quotes for fast growth broilers in Henan were unchanged.

Prices of fast growth broilers were sharply higher in Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang Region in the run up to Spring Festival (falls on Jan 29). Lower demand among urban residents for medium and slow growth yellow broilers have prevented prices from making significant gains.

The impact of recent bird flu outbreak in Sichuan province on broiler sales in other poultry-producing provinces was small.

Market forecast

China's broiler prices are set to move higher in the week ahead on increased broiler consumption.
