India's Poultry Sector Growing

INDIA - The poultry sector in India is the fourth largest producer of eggs in the world, with an estimated production of 3,000 crore eggs annually.

The country stands eighth globally in terms of broiler production with an output of 100 crore birds that can yield about 7.5 lakh tonnes of poultry meat.

The organised poultry sector in the country has made investments of Rs6,500 crore and produces 500 crore eggs and 45 crore broilers annually.

Poultry exports from India earned revenues of Rs157 crore during Apr-Nov 2005.
