Austrians Bought 9 Percent Less Poultry

AUSTRIA - Austrians bought 9.4 percent less poultry between September and December 2005 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to a new study.

The study, released Tuesday by a group that markets Austrian agricultural products, said Austrians bought 12,581 metric tons of poultry, compared to 13,889 metric tons a year earlier.

It gave no explanation for the decline, which coincided with fears over bird flu.
