Cal-Maine 3rd-quarter profit triples, stock jumps

US - Egg seller Cal-Maine Foods Inc. (CALM.O: Quote, Profile, Research) on Monday said its quarterly profit more than tripled on a strong egg market and moderate feed costs, sending its shares up more than 10 percent.

The company posted profit of $8 million, or 34 cents per share, for the fiscal third quarter ended February 25, up from $2.4 million, or 10 cents a share, a year earlier.

Sales rose 29 percent to $130.1 million.

Cal-Maine shares were up 69 cents at $7 on Monday on Nasdaq and traded near $7.39 earlier in the session.
