Registration of poultry farms and workers to start soon

PAKISTAN - The chairman of the Taskforce on Bird Flu has said that the NWFP government will soon start the registration of poultry farms and poultry workers in the province.

Presiding over a meeting of the taskforce at the NWFP Chief Minster’s Secretariat on Wednesday, Arbab Shahrukh Khan, also the NWFP Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives secretary, said that the registration would be carried out to streamline and channelise the transport of poultry among districts.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the World Health Organisation, officials of the health, livestock, agriculture, environment, information and other provincial departments and members of the taskforce.

He said that all veterinary laboratories of the province were being upgraded to be able to diagnose bird flu. All precautionary measures regarding bird flu have already been taken, an official statement issued after the meeting read. The taskforce chairman said that the government would soon introduce legislation to control the poultry business and poultry-related diseases.
