Agriculture Minister strengthens poultry industry

INDIA - The Union Agriculture Minister, Mr. Sharad Pawar agreed to release 53 lakh tonnes of maize and broken rice to the poultry farmers following a meeting with The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) delegation, State Poultry Associations and industry members today to discuss support systems for farmers and to help them bring production levels back to normal.

In addition to this, Mr. Sharad Pawar also recommended immediate implementation of the Zoning Programme to facilitate movement: of poultry-products nationally and internationally specially from the export targeted areas.

The agriculture minister also agreed to look into the custom duty structure for amino acids and vitamins to be withdrawn. This would bring in economy to the poultry feed manufacturers.

The Ministry also made recommendations to ensure that financial benefits are made available to the fanning community as early as possible, as per RBI guidelines.

Mrs. Anuradha Desai, Chairperson, NECC said, “The Industry has received overwhelming support and response from the Agriculture Ministry, We expect the industry to revive through the financial support system as welt as other methods of supporting the farmers like provision of food grains, availability far the poultry feed manufacturing which will go long way to help the farmers in bringing production levels back to normal.”
