Duck Farmers Distressed By Skyrocketing Feed Prices

INDONESIA - Unlike most poultry farmers who have been affected by the bird flu outbreak, thousands of duck farmers in Brebes regency, Central Java, are distressed about a sudden increase in feed prices.

The increase in prices, ranging from 80 to 100 percent which was blamed due to lack of supply, has prompted farmers to request government intervention to resolve the problem.

Duck farmers are worried that the current prices of duck feed will jeopardize their hopes of surviving in the business.

There are 4,400 duck farmers, who breed a total of 889,372 ducks in Brebes regency, encompassing a number of major duck production areas, such as Bulakamba, Warnasari, Losari and Tanjung.
