Poultry Plant Delayed Again

US - The opening of a poultry processing plant in Water Valley has been delayed for the second time, and one of the company's creditors says he has not been paid.

Financial problems at the privately funded Water Valley Poultry prompted Kenneth George of Morton to file a $174,843 lien claiming he was not paid for work at the plant.

Water Valley Poultry owner John Craig, of Stockton, Calif., could not be reached. Craig is remodeling the plant that once housed Valley Fresh Foods.

Larry Hart, a former Water Valley mayor instrumental in luring Craig to the city, said he is "cautiously optimistic" things are going to work out, noting that it is a matter of principals getting their finances together.

The project is estimated to cost between $5 million and $6 million.
