Punjab Seeks Tie-Ups With EU In Power

INDIA - An eight-member European parliamentary delegation called on Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Gen SF Rodrigues (retd), at Punjab Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday and discussed different subjects of mutual interest covering the agriculture, food processing, IT, tourism and power sectors.

General Rodrigues emphasised the need for increasing trade ties and long-term collaborative initiatives in agriculture, particularly marketing of farm produce and sharing of knowhow to enhance yields, and setting up food processing units for the mutual benefit of farmers and the business and trade community.

He said another significant field for collaboration is power generation as a huge potential waiting to be tapped in the Himalayan rivers.

The delegation, comprising members of various European countries, included Neena Gill , Jim Nicholson, Philip Bushill-Matthews, Nirj Deva, Jean Lambert, and Saijad Karm (all from the United Kingdom), Marianne Mikko (Estonia), Jean-Marie Beaupuy (France) and Josef Leinen from Germany.
