Small-Scale Poultry Breeders Receive Avian Flu Information

US - Lynn Bougher opened her purse yesterday, pulled out a picture of her 15 chickens and smiled.

"These are my girls," the Easton woman said yesterday during a workshop on avian influenza at the state Farm Show Complex. "I don't want anyone to take away my birds, so I thought I better learn about avian influenza."

Most avian flu workshops are geared toward poultry farm operators who raise hundreds of thousands of birds for meat and eggs. Yesterday's focused on small-scale poultry producers, show bird enthusiasts, game-bird breeders and owners of hobby and specialty flocks.
