China's broiler prices gave up initial gains of the week-long Labour Day holidays, ending mostly lower towards the close of the holiday period. This was unlike a year ago, when broiler prices remained firm throughout the holiday season.

Broiler prices fell in the provinces of Liaoning, Shandong, Hebei and Sichuan. In Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang Region, prices were higher on better demand. In Jiangsu province, prices of AA white feather broilers remained unchanged but were higher for fast growth (49 days) China breed broilers.

Broiler inventories in China are likely to remain low in the near term. However, broiler consumption is not expected to rise significantly as the increasingly warmer weather is seen to affect meat consumption.

China's broiler prices are not expected to pick up in the near term. In the week ahead, prices are seen stable to lower in most regions.
