Grampian announces major redundancies

UK - Fierce competition from European imports has forced the Grampian Country Food to make major redundancies at two of its poultry processing plants.

Over the coming months, job cuts will hit a third of the workforce at the Banff site, Scotland, and up to half of the 540 staff at Llangefni, north Wales.

Alasdair Cox, Grampian corporate communications controller, blamed the redundancies on “poor trading conditions”, a knock on effect from avian flu in Europe.

The Banff site will handle portion-only processing work, transferring its primary processing and whole bird packing to a sister-site in Coupar Angus, Scotland.
