Kano govt appeals to farmers against new chickens

NIGERIA - Kano State Government has appealed to poultry farmers in the state whose farms were ravaged by the recent bird flu scourge to desist from injecting fresh chickens into their poultry.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resource, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Kano ,Saturday.

He said poultry keepers should wait until the farms were disinfected and certified safe before they could restock.

The commissioner explained that the state government was fumigating the farms, and that it would take three weeks before they could be declared fit for business once more.

Garba warned that should the farmers ignore the government’ s advice “then, they are on their own should the chickens get afflicted by the Avian flu again”.
