All-clear for German abattoir after Danish accusation

GERMANY - German health officials said Monday they had checked one of the abattoirs named in a Danish news report as a source of contaminated turkey meat and found no sign of salmonella.

Officials in a second German state were meanwhile checking another abattoir belonging to the company.

A Danish newspaper, Politiken, had earlier reported that the bacteria, which can cause gastro-intestinal illness, were found in 10 out of 10 samples of German-sourced turkey breast bought at a supermarket. The newspaper had commissioned its own laboratory tests.
