Russia bans Hungarian poultry imports

RUSSIA - Russia banned the import of poultry and related products from Hungary on Friday, in an effort to prevent the spread of avian flu, the agricultural ministry announced yesterday.

The measures are seen as a huge blow for the industry, which is already facing declining sales, Népszabadság reports.

The temporary restrictions will be imposed on live poultry, poultry meat and poultry products which have not undergone thermal treatment, hatching eggs, fodder and fodder additives. Poultry management equipment has also been added to the prohibited list.

Russia's decision to impose restrictions on Hungarian poultry was proceeded by similar decisions from Japan and China
