DuPont has been asked to provide the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with approximately 75,000 DuPontTM Tychem® garments to be worn by USDA workers while handling infected game and poultry.

DuPontTM Tychem® delivers effective protection against a range of chemicals. The garment is worn in a variety of industries -- including environmental cleanup operations, hazardous response and waste management.

"For more than 200 years, DuPont has been working with the U.S. government, providing a range of products, services, and knowledge required to respond to threats of national security," said Dale Outhous, global business director -- DuPont Personal Protection. "We are proud to once again serve in this role as we prepare for the possibility of avian flu reaching the United States. We remain ready to supply additional protective apparel as may be needed, as well as other innovations such as Virkon® S veterinary disinfectant and RelyOn® personal disinfectant."

DuPont and its local partners are currently working with government officials, veterinarians and farm staff around the world on key preventive control measures needed to help minimize the spread of avian flu on poultry or game farms. Recently, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) asked DuPont to provide initial supplies of its DuPontTM Virkon® S veterinary disinfectant to meet the short-term needs in 81 nations, where it is needed most to help governments and farmers prevent avian flu from spreading. Additionally, in Indonesia, DuPont has teamed with the Red Cross to assist the Indonesian government in combating avian flu through community awareness and community-based surveillance. Fastenal, a Minnesota-based industrial distributor, will deliver the DuPontTM Tychem® garments to locations designated by the USDA.

"With 12 distribution centers, a fleet of over 275 company-owned semi-trucks and trailers and over 1,800 store sites, Fastenal is well-positioned to ensure the safe and timely delivery of the DuPontTM Tychem® garments," said Dale Bartelson, Fastenal's safety and security product manager. "We look forward to teaming with DuPont on this initiative and playing a role in assisting the USDA at this critical time."
