NFU advised to take part in CAP reform consultation - UK - Talks between NFU President Peter Kendall and EU Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel have been described as ‘friendly and constructive’ when the pair met today in Brussels.

Discussions centred on the health check of the CAP reform, due to take place in 2008.

Mariann Fischer Boel and Peter Kendall agreed the purpose of the health check is to simplify the CAP, for example by looking to remove obligations to remove set aside - and remove distortions arising from different national systems - for example by moving to a single rate of modulation across the EU.

Mrs Fischer Boel advised the NFU to give its views to the commission and participate fully in the consultation process.
