The advertisements do not mention Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson by name, but Edmondson and other Oklahoma officials said the advertisements could be construed as anti-Edmondson campaigning during an election year.

Representatives for the Poultry Council said in a news release Monday that they will suspend the advertisements that refer to the state attorney general until after the November elections to avoid the "appearance of impropriety."

"Given the current discussion regarding the appropriateness of our advertising that references the attorney general, we have decided to ensure that there is no cause for speculation about our purpose," said Janet Wilkerson, a spokeswoman for the council.
