Created as a result of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006, it brings together English Nature, the Rural Development Service and the Countryside Agency.

Until now, biodiversity, natural beauty, access and recreation, and the delivery of agri-environment schemes have been delivered by separate bodies.

As a result, the multiple benefits they can bring have often been lost. Natural England will change this by offering a one-stop shop, which for the farmer means less red tape and bureaucracy.

Helen Phillips, Chief Executive of Natural England, said: "Natural England is about four things: having a healthy natural environment, people’s enjoyment of the natural environment, sustainable use of our natural resources and a secure environmental future.”

Land management campaign

Good land management provides a wide range of other benefits to society -such as soil protection, carbon management and flood prevention. Natural England will be developing a campaign which will work in partnership with the farming and land management community across England. To view the Natural England website, click here
