President praises poultry's commercial vision
UK - NFU President Peter Kendall today congratulated the poultry industry as a sector that finds solutions when faced with problems and has embraced the use of marketing as a key tool in creating a more prosperous future.
Speaking as the new president of the Egg and Poultry Meat Industry Conference at its 40th conference, Mr Kendall highlighted the work the sector did creating the Lion brand following the salmonella in eggs crisis in 1988.
He told the conference the marketing campaign for the Lion brand had restored consumer confidence and had added value in terms of safety, quality, freshness and choice.
He also said the NFU and other industry bodies like the British Poultry Council and the British Egg Industry Council needed to work together for the industry and could not afford to duplicate resources.
He highlighted the success of last month’s House of Commons lobby by the NFU, BPC and BEIC where hundreds of poultry farmers called for a three-year waiver on costs for the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control regulations, and Lord Rooker’s assurance that he would undertake a review of the charges.
Mr Kendall said the industry had much to be proud of and should be confident about its future.
