Dutch hatcheries to merge

THE NETHERLANDS - Two Dutch hatecheries, Cobroed and Sloot based in Groenlo and Pronk based in Meppel, have announced they are to merge into one large operation from 1 January 2007.

The new company, called Probroed and Sloot, will be based in Groenlo. Hans van Vleuten, currently managing director of Cobroed and Sloot, will head up the new venture after the merger. The new company will have a weekly hatching capacity of 3.5 million broiler chicks.

Probroed and Sloot will operate in the Netherlands and in Germany, where the company will have a market share of approximately 20 percent. Probroed and Sloot will also cooperate with some 500 poultry farmers, more than 10 poultry processors and numerous feed manufacturers, private and cooperative. The group outsources hatching activities with several independent hatcheries in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
