Pakistan City Council Approves New Poultry Tax

KARACHI - The City Council, on Tuesday approved to impose tax on more than 5,000 poultry shops in the metropolis, while the Opposition termed this as unjustified and staged a walkout out in protest.

The city government, through the levy will earn an income one million rupees. The treasury benches ruled out the objections raised by the Opposition over the issue and heated arguments took place between the Opposition and treasury members that created rumpus at the site.

The Opposition leader blamed that sanctity of the House was being damaged and the Opposition was being pushed to the wall. The opposition also commented that the city government has miserably failed to control the milk prices and as it was being sold at Rs32 per litre.

Presiding officer Masood Mahmood said that with the imposition of tax on poultry, masses will not be burdened.
