Egg packer merger report delayed
UK - The Competition Commission (CC) has delayed the final report into its investigation into the merger of the two largest UK egg packers, Deans and Stonegate, by eight weeks.
Its initial findings concluded that the merger, which led to the creation of Nobel Foods, “substantially reduced” competition in certain egg markets. And it added that the only satisfactory way to restore competition back to the market is for Nobel to divest part of its business.
The CC explained the delay was necessary due to the complexity of possible remedy options put forward by Nobel Foods.
The group considers that completion of its investigation and the publicaton of its final report, including any necessary remedy process, would not have been possible within the original reference period.
The commission intends to publish its report on 24 April.
