Shell Eggs Broken Up 1 Percent from Last Year

Shell eggs broken totaled 162 million dozen during December 2006, up 1 percent from December a year ago, and 1 percent above the 161 million broken last month.

December 2006 contained 21 weekdays (including one holiday) and 5 Saturdays. December 2005 contained 22 weekdays (including one holiday) and 5 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2006 through December, shell eggs broken totaled 2.02 billion dozen, down 1 percent from the comparable period in 2005. Total edible liquid from eggs broken in 2006 was 2.63 billion pounds, down 1 percent from 2005.
