George’s Plans To Focus On Broilers
US - Springdale poultry producer George’s Inc. will shed its consumable egg business near Siloam Springs to focus on expanding its broiler production, a top official with the company said last week.Monty Henderson, president and chief operating officer of the privately held chicken producer, declined to disclose the financial details of the deal, but confirmed the sale would include 1 million hens that produce about 350, 000 dozen eggs a week.
George’s struck the deal with Benton County Foods, a newly formed joint venture between two U. S. egg companies — Cal-Maine Foods Inc. of Jackson, Miss., and Country Creek Farms Llc. of Rogers, a major marketer of egg products.
While all parties remained mum on the deal’s value, the transactions would include pullet-growing facilities, and a feed mill in Watts, Okla.
“ Looking in our long-term opportunities, we see more opportunity in expanding our broiler business, ” Henderson said in a telephone interview last week.
“ We want to focus our growth on the broiler business, and we thought that it was the right time to exit the egg business, ” said Henderson.
