Poultry production contributes more than $1 billion to the state's economy.

State Reps. Hollis Downs and Rick Gallot and Sen. Robert Kostelka will be on hand to read the resolution at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 at the festival site on the town square.

Poultry production is Louisiana's largest animal industry and has held that position for the past five years, said Johnnie Whitmire, assistant extension agent for poultry at LSU AgCenter's Hill Farm Research Station in Homer.

"Poultry production contributes more than $1 billion to the state's economy, which makes it the second largest segment of Louisiana's agricultural industries," she said, adding that forestry is first in total income production.
