Poultry Self-Sufficiency On Track

IRAN - Production of chicken and eggs has reached near self-sufficiency and there is no need to import the two products, deputy agricultural jihad minister for livestock affairs announced.

Nezameddin Sajjadi predicted that about 1.4 million tons of chicken and over 700,000 tons of eggs would be produced and distributed in the market until March.

He told IRNA that in light of the planning in the production of day-old chicken and purchase of chicken and eggs, the poultry sector would witness a remarkable increase in production in the second half of the year to March.

The official anticipated that some 840,000 tons of red meat would also be produced during March 2007-2008 indicating an increase of 35,000 tons compared to the figure for last year.

Also, head of Agricultural Jihad Ministry’s Poultry Industry Support Center said that comprehensive plans have been made to increase the export of chicken and egg.

Hossein Damavandinejad explained that the poultry industry is in a favorable state in terms of quality and quaintly, ISNA reported.
