Hungary, with a population of nearly 10 million, has about 13 million egg-laying hens, the Hungarian news agency MTI said Tuesday.

A Poultry Council official told reporters Hungarians enjoy eating eggs for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner.

Speaking at a news conference in advance of World Egg Day Oct. 12, the official said Hungarian farmers produce 2.7 billion eggs per year worth $141 million.

World Egg Day is observed on the second Friday in October each year with promotional campaigns worldwide.
