The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was called to the farm after local police discovered unhealthy conditions during a routine annual inspection earlier this week.

MSPCA spokesman Brian Adams says in addition to the 100 dead animals, its workers removed about 500 live chickens and 200 live ducks from the property to a facility in Methuen.

The live poultry were covered in dirt and animal waste.

He says the MSPCA is investigating for allegations of animal cruelty.
