avec 2007 annual report

The report examines chicken welfare, feed costs and labeling at stake. It goes on to identify what impact they have upon the European poultry market and what prospects can be expected from the industry in the years to come.

The main objectives of avec are to promote and defend the interests of the members, to find solutions to common issues, and to create a level playing field with common international rules and standards. The aim is to represent a strong and united European poultry industry by cooperating and keeping close contact to our member organisations and by maintaining and developing strong relations with the European Union, international organisations, and partners.

The president of the organization describes 2007 as a "challenging year for the European poultry industry", citing the continuing consequences of the avian flu outbreak that crept across the borders of a few member states in the earlier months. Despite, the scenario was soon quickly amended the market still bared the brunt of dented consumer confidence and fear of a recurrence.

The good news is that an optimistic picture begins to emerge from the growing trends of the report. The information collected by avec points to a profitable few years ahead with greater emphasis on food safety, welfare and biosecurity.
