Egg Innovations is the largest single producer of eggs certified by Humane Farm Animal Care.

Compass announced today a landmark policy to implement cage-free shell eggs in its 7,500 units nationally, which will affect 48 million eggs annually.

Egg Innovations is the largest single producer of eggs certified by Humane Farm Animal Care, widely considered to be the strictest third-party certification standard in the egg industry.

"More and more consumers are concerned about where their food comes from, and how it is produced," said John Brunnquell, third-generation family farmer and president of Egg Innovations. "I am proud to supply Compass with my cage-free eggs to meet this demand for ethical food production."

Brunnquell transitioned his family's farm to cage-free production in 2005 with the mission of producing eggs that meet the highest national standards for animal welfare and nutrition, all within a family farming model. The company’s cage-free and free-range hens live on 31 farms in Indiana – 29 of which are run by Amish farming families. The Egg Innovations contract model enables farmers to remain independent owners of their land and facilities.
