The company presently produces 60 million eggs a year and the capacity is being raised to 80 million after the first half of 2008, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.

"We have already inked a deal with a local contracting firm for the expansion project and tied up with a reputed foreign company to supply the necessary equipment," the general manager of the company, Mohamed Mahmood Sudan said.

The expansion would entail having an extra 75,000 chickens at the poultry farms of the company. "The expansion project has been launched with a view to meeting the shortage of eggs in the local market," the general manager said. "We are going to provide lasting solution to the problem," he pointed out.
