Shell Eggs Broken Down 1 Percent from Last Year

Shell eggs broken totaled 160 million dozen during November 2007, down 1 percent fromNovember a year ago, and 12 percent below the 181 million broken last month.

November 2007 contained 22 weekdays (including two holidays) and 4 Saturdays. November 2006 contained 22 weekdays (including two holidays) and 4 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2007 through November, shell eggs broken totaled 1.84 billion dozen, down 1 percent from the comparable period in 2006. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2007 was 2.40 billion pounds, down 1 percent from 2006.

Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
