Top 3 US Broiler Meat Export Destinations by Volume (MT)

Based on the charts, US broiler meat exports to Russia have steadily increased over the past few years while the value of the US dollar has decreased against the Russian ruble. The US exported 820,556 metric tons (MT) of chicken leg quarters to Russia in 2007, which accounted for 96.2% of total US broiler meat exports to Russia. In 2002, the US exported 521,076 metric tons (MT) leg quarters comprising 74% of total broiler meat exports to Russia.

Similarly, the value of the Chinese Yuan has increased over the US dollar in recent years and coincidentally demand for US broiler meat has also increased. However in 2007 and early 2008 China suffered harsh winter storms in conjunction with already tight domestic pork supplies and strong prices. The US exported 66,925 MT of leg quarters to China in 2007 (9.9% of total broiler meat exports). In 2002, US leg quarter exports to China comprised 28.4% of total US broiler meat exports (23,869 MT).

On the other hand, US broiler meat exports to Mexico have decreased. Interestingly enough the value of the US dollar is stronger against the Mexican peso now than it was in the past 5 years. US leg quarter exports to Mexico totaled 49,394 MT and comprised 27% of total US broiler meat exports in 2007. In 2002, US leg quarter exports to Mexico were 16,208 MT and 11% of total US broiler meat exports.
