Poultry farming is the second largest industry in the country after textile.

"Though the industry has developed a lot since 1947, the farmers are not required to follow any rules and regulation while running a farm", an official said.

"A majority of poultry farms across the country do not posses any No Objection Certificate (NOC) or guidelines from the ministry concerned," the official said, adding that the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and the Environment Ministry had failed to provide proper guidelines for the poultry industry,"

Above 25,000 poultry farms, 100 to 130 in the twin cities, are operating without guidelines. Some of them are located in densely-populated areas.

On the other hand, most of employees working at the poultry farms are illiterate.
