Vietnam Ranks First for Type A/H5N1 Patients

VIETNAM – According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam ranks first in the world for the ratio of type A/H5N1 patients and second for the fatality ratio.

WHO’s report (made from reports of 14 countries) shows that Vietnam has the highest number of type A/H5N1 patients, with 105 cases since November 2003 and 51 of them dead, second after Indonesia.

So far, 370 people in the world have caught type A/H5N1 flu and 236 have died. The fatal ratio among type A/H5N1 patients is very high, experts said.

At present, Vietnam doesn’t record any new cases of type A/H5N1.

According to the news agency VietnamNetBridge, At a meeting of the Steering Board for Bird Flu Control on March 5, the Head of the Central Institute for Epidemiology Nguyen Tran Hien said bird flu has developed very complicatedly in Vietnam while most of type A/H5N1 patients died. Once again the Health Ministry warned the people to not contact with ill poultry.
