Novinite reports that some of the participants in the cartel consisted of Bulgaria's Union of Poultry Farmers and and Gradus Ltd Stara Zagora, to name a few.

Due to dramatic rise in poultry prices in August of 2007, the Competition Committee began an investigation on the case.

The companies involved had come up with a secret plan to control the egg market with respect to the prices and with respect to the volume of production.

The measures were clearly aimed towards wiping the competition out and increasing retail prices.

The Committee announced that the rise of egg prices in August-September 2007 had been so steep that they had overtaken the average egg prices in the EU.

Another discovery made was that from 2002 to 2007, meetings were held most often between egg and poultry producers when prices would start to decline.
