Officials say that the ending of the ban will be delayed until at least September, reports TV-NZ.

The dispute over chickens washed in chlorine has soured relations between the European Union and its largest trading partner, the United States.

It is normal practice for poultry carcasses to receive a low-concentration chlorine wash in the the US to reduce the risk of foodborne pathogens. This practice is not permitted in the EU and as a result, a ban on imports of US poultry meat into the EU has been in place since 1997.
