According to The Star, it was ordered sealed last week after it continued to operate despite being slapped with several summonses over the years by the local authority.

The order was issued after officials from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) raided the illegal abattoir last Thursday and told the owner to relocate to an industrial area.

According to MPK licensing division director Azhar Samsudin, the illegal operator was fined RM1,000 and given a three-month grace period to move out of the housing area.

“The MPK has issued compounds to the owner more than three times for operating without a permit,” he said.

“We will send the owner a notice ordering him to move out from the housing area within three months,” Azhar said.

Selangor State New Village Development and Illegal Factory Task Force Committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah was present during the raid jointly conducted by the MPK and the state Department of Environment.

Ean Yong said the state government would take action to tear down the makeshift abattoir if the owner failed to abide by the order.

He said he was surprised to see that the place was clean when he arrived there as there had been numerous complaints of the dirty conditions there.

According to resident Lee Kiew Seng, 44, the residents have been complaining to the authorities since the illegal slaughterhouse started operating in 1995.

“Sadly, nothing has been done and it continued operating till two days ago when the sound of lorries transporting chicken in front of our houses suddenly died down and the smell started to cease,” Lee said.

“We hope the activities will not resume after the enforcement officers leave,” he said.

Another resident, who wanted to be identified as Tee, 44, said that he and his family had been living for years with the unbearable stench from the rotting chicken parts.

“The illegal slaughterhouse not only made the surroundings and drains filthy, it is also an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he said.
