Eggs in Incubators on September 1 Down 7 Per Cent from Last Year

Turkey eggs in incubators on September 1, 2008, in the United States totaled 28.6 million, down 7 per cent from September 1, 2007. Eggs in incubators were down 10 per cent from the August 1, 2008 total of 31.9 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 1 per cent, West North Central down 3 per cent, North and South Atlantic down 5 per cent, and South Central and West down 33 per cent.

Poults Hatched During August Down 5 Per Cent from Last Year

Turkey poults hatched during August 2008 in the United States totaled 25.6 million, down 5 per cent from August 2007. Poults hatched were down 8 per cent from July 2008 total of 27.6 million poults. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 9 per cent, West North Central down slightly, North and South Atlantic down 5 per cent, and South Central and West down 14 per cent.

Net Poults Placed During August Down 8 Per Cent from Last Year

The 24.5 million net poults placed during August 2008 in the United States were down 8 per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down 8 per cent from the July 2008 total of 26.6 million.
