Poultry Company Chairman Passes Away

MALAYSIA - Datuk Lau Chong Wang, chairman and managing director of Leong Hup Holdings Bhd, died on 5 September.

His death, from liver cancer, was reported by New Straits Times. He was 68 years old.

His wife, Datin Heng Ah Pee, and four children were by his side when he died in Guangzhou, China.

Lau was diagnosed with liver cancer last year and had gone to China a week ago to seek medical treatment.

He had been a director of Leong Hup Holdings (LHH) since its inception in October 1979 before becoming its chairman and managing director in August 1990.

Under his stewardship, the LHH Group grew from a small backyard farm into one of the largest poultry breeders and integrated farm operators in the country.

He also sat on the board of A' Famosa Golf Resort Bhd.

Lau was the brother of Lau Bong Wong, Datuk Lau Eng Guang, Tan Sri Francis Lau Tuang Nguang and Lau Chun Yuen, the directors and major shareholders of LHH.

According to Francis, his brother's body was flown back yesterday and the funeral will be held on Friday at his residence in Muar, Johor.
