Shell Eggs Broken Up 10 Per Cent from Last Year

US - Shell eggs broken totaled 183 million dozen during July 2008, up 10 per cent from July a year ago, and 9 per cent above the 168 million broken last month.

The period covered by the latest report (July 2008) contained 23 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays. July 2007 contained 22 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.

During calendar year 2008 through July, shell eggs broken totaled 1,193 million dozen, up 4 per cent from the comparable period in 2007. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2008 was 1,558 million pounds, up 4 per cent from 2007.

Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
