PERU - Authorities have notified the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about two outbreaks of Newcastle disease in late August in the south of the country.

The first outbreak killed 800 birds around 25 days of age in a backyard flock of 2500 birds in Arequipa. The remaining birds were destroyed and the outbreak is described as 'resolved'.

In a second outbreak described as 'continuing', almost all of a 4500-bird backyard flock in Cusco died. The surviving six birds were destroyed.
